The Student Senate of Ouachita Baptist University
has four driving purposes. First
of all, this organization is here to serve as a voice for
the students - to speak out about the issues and concerns the
student body has. Representatives
from the Student Senate
meet regularly with President Westmoreland, Dean Henley, and other
administrators to inform them of the issues on our (the students')
minds.
Secondly, the Senate is here to serve as a liaison between
students and faculty. When a member of the faculty/staff needs
student input, he or she will come to the student senate.
If you, as a student, have a complaint, praise, or
suggestion, you may voice it to any student senate member around
campus, email the student senate,
or come visit us in our office (open Monday - Friday from 11:00 -
4:00) located on the Evans Student Center Bridge. We will be happy
to voice YOUR opinion to the appropriate administrator; it's our job!
Also, the Student Senate is here to keep the student body
informed about the actions the faculty, administration, and
board of trustees make, the current events of the school, and also
the most recent news or ideas.
If you want to stay informed as to what decisions are being
made around campus, or what the student senate is doing, check this
website, talk to a student senate member, or come to any of our
meetings - they're open to ANY student, and we'd be excited to have
you!
Finally, our fourth purpose: to improve campus life.
The Student Senate has an annual budget of approximately
$15,000. What do we do with it? You might notice the
couches and TVs on the student center bridge, the benches outside,
and the bleachers on the intramural fields; each of these were
purchased by the Senate with the intent to improve campus
life. Also, the Student Senate gives money to various clubs
and organizations. If you have questions about that, click on
"clubs and organizations" under the "committees"
link. |
