President
Mary Carole Young called the meeting to order at 6:00 pm
Secretary
Michael Schartung called the roll.
All members were present except Freshman Senator Breanne
Riley. Also in
attendance were Randy Garner and David Sharp.
Secretary
Michael Schartung read the minutes of the previous meeting.
Freshman
Class Treasurer Tiffany Eurich was sworn in as she was not present
at the previous week’s meeting.
Committee
Reports
Treasurer
Moore, chair of the Finance committee, said that he needs to see all
chairs of committees after the meeting.
The Faculty-Administration committee reported that they are
getting a list of university committees together, and that senators,
as well as other Ouachita students will be asked to sit in on these
committees. The Campus Life committee announced that they would be
bringing things to the floor in new business.
President Mary Carole Young announced that the Executive
committee would meet Sunday, September 23 at 8:30 in the office. Secretary Schartung announced that the Traffic Court would
meet on Wednesday and asked everyone to spread the word. President Mary Carole Young announced Jason Gerber as the
chair of the Food committee.

Business
President
Mary Carole Young announced for one last time (she promised) the
policy on absences. She
wanted to be sure that everyone was very clear on the policy.
She then thanked everyone for working their office times.
Also, senators were reminded of being invited to the football
game against SAU. Tickets
were still available. Finally,
she announced that due to a lack of interest, the Senate would not
be sponsoring a Tiger Serve Day team.
New
Business
Coach
Sharp and Randy Garner talked about a contest to create words for
the fight song. They
gave details and let us know that Dr. Westmoreland was in full
support. Their request
was that the Senate sponsors (handles the promoting) a contest to
come up with new words. There
has been a web page set up that outlines all the details and that
entries can be sent in from. They
have put in a combined total of $300 for a prize.
Senior Senator David Nelson motioned to support this.
The motion passed unanimously.
It was decided that the PR committee would handle the
promotion.
Senior
Class President Lindsey Little motioned that the Senate contribute
$200 to the prize money for the contest.
Her motion passed unanimously.
In
other new business, President Mary Carole Young announced that we
would be having t-shirts made as has been done in the past. She has contacted people to come up with possible designs.
Senators were asked to sign up for a size this week in the
Senate office.
Sophomore
Senator Nancy Goodwin asked if it was possible to move our fall
blood drive up. President
Mary Carole Young and Secretary Michael Schartung informed her that
Kenny Schweer has been looking into it, but it does not look
possible.
Junior
Senator Kristen Rickett made a motion coming out of the Campus Life
committee to look in to getting new American and Arkansas flags for
the plaza. There was a
second. In discussion
things were brought up about how the process of bringing things to
the floor typically works.
Lindsey Little moved to table the matter until we had more
information. There was
a second. The motion
was tabled.
Treasurer
Collier Moore motioned to allocate a maximum $200 to buy red, white
and blue ribbons to give out at the football game.
There was a second and the motion carried.
The
meeting was adjourned without objection at 6:31 p.m.
