President
Mary Carole Young called the meeting to order at 6:00 p.m.
It
was announced that there would be a forum tonight in Mabee
discussing Tuesday’s tragedy.
Also, EEE Fifties Night had been postponed until Thursday
September 20. Planet
Ouachita will be held Monday September 17.
Secretary
Michael Schartung called the roll.
The following senators were not in attendance: Tami Harper,
Tilly Carter, Justin Harrison, Tiffany Eurich, and Breanne Riley.
Hunter Burroughs came in late.
Secretary
Michael Schartung read the highlights of the previous week’s
minutes.
Treasurer
Collier Moore gave the treasurer’s report.
He noted that we are still waiting on our $15,000 from Pepsi.
President
Mary Carole Young swore in the new freshman class senators in
attendance.
After
their swearing in, committee reports were called for, but there were
none.
Senior
Class President Lindsey Little explained the subcommittee structure.
President Mary Carole Young informed senators what she would
be in the office on Monday at noon if anyone needed further
explanation about committees.
In
unfinished business President Mary Carole Young told the senate that
the executive met with Dr. Westmoreland and his staff on Wednesday.
She covered what was discussed in the meeting.
In
more unfinished business, President Mary Carole Young went over the
absence policy once more. She
then thanked everyone for their work in the office, and informed the
new senators that they would need to sign up for a time to work in
the office.
In
other unfinished business, President Westmoreland has invited
senators to the SAU game on September 22 at 7:00 p.m.
A limited number of tickets are available in his office.
In
new business, President Mary Carole Young announced that she is
forming the food committee again.
The following senators volunteered to serve on that
committee: Bryant Adams, Jason Gerber, Nancy Goodwin, Kadi Prikryl,
Whitney Hall, and Nicole Engelkes.
President
Mary Carole Young thanked everyone for their cooperation with the
week’s changes in light of Tuesday’s events.
Also, she informed everyone that Tiger Serve Day was coming
up and that the Senate would form a team if interest warranted it.
In
more new business, President Mary Carole Young informed the senate
that the executive is appointing a committee to review and recommend
changes to the constitution, per the constitution.
Senators expressing interest were: Brannon Brown, Wes
Clement, and Amanda Aldridge.
Senators
were given a “fact sheet” from the administration that outlines
various things about the university at this time.
Also, the next meeting was announced to be at the normal time
and place.
Senior
Class President Lindsey Little asked to meet with senior senators
after the meeting. Vice
President Hunter Burroughs asked the campus life committee to meet
after the meeting, as well.
After
informing the senate that they need to call safety to get into the
office, or have it locked, she explained that the recorder of each
committee should now enter the committee’s minutes online.
