Young called the meeting to order at 5:58 p.m.

Highlights
of the minutes of the previous meeting were given.
Treasurer
Moore gave the treasurer's report.
Committee
Report
The
ad-hoc subcommittee for elections informed the Senate that there
would be a meeting with the Freshmen who are running in the upcoming
election tomorrow, August 29. Vice
President Adams asked senators to sign up to work the polls on
Election Day. Also, the
Senate was informed that run-offs would be held the day after
general elections.
President
Young urged the people who will be chairing committees to recruit
people outside of the senate to work on their committees.
Old
Business
David
Nelson was sworn into Senior Position Number 2.
Secretary
Schartung reported on the status of the new computer. He gave details of the computer’s configuration.
New
Business
President
Young reminded Senators that each is allowed only two absences.
After a senator’s second unexcused absence they will be
removed from the Senate. Also,
she informed the Senate that if people continue to come in late to
meetings, each tardy will be counted as a half absence.
President
Young reminded the Senate that guard the tiger was going on this
week. Social clubs are
guarding it through Thursday, and the freshmen will be guarding it
on Friday.
Senator
Little made a motion to take the freshmen doughnuts, Vice President
Adams seconded, and the motion carried.
President’s
Report
The
university council is working on getting a judicial council
together. The council
will convene to hear alleged violations of the Covenant on Academic
Honor. Professors are
in the process of nominating students to serve.
A
student lost her father this week.
In the past, senate has given flowers.
Senator Little reported that in the past we have called Mary
& Martha’s and let them take care of things.
Vice President Adams motioned to have Mary & Martha’s
send an arrangement to the girl’s family.
The motion passed.
There will be a meeting with Richard Stipe next
week. Senators were
asked to talk to their constituents about any problems that could be
taken to that meeting.
Other
Announcements
Senator
Harrison announced that on September 7 and 8 the debate club is
holding their first tournament.
They are in need of judges.
He said that if anyone is interested in judging they should
talk to him, Joe Hurst, or Paul Bass.
The
meeting was adjourned without objection at 6:11 p.m.
